Technical Analysis of SmartSens SC285SL Sensor

November 21, 2025
As a camera module manufacturer, we pay close attention to the "King of Low-Light" SC285SL super star-level sensor launched by SmartSens in October 2025. With its core technological advantages, this product can directly enhance the scenario adaptability and market competitiveness of security modules.
Core Adaptation Value
  1. Breakthrough in Low-Light Full-Color Imaging: Equipped with SFCPixel® technology, it features a 4.0μm pixel size and high sensitivity of 12236mV/lux*s. It can output clear full-color images at 0.01lux without supplementary lighting, perfectly solving the "supplementary lighting dependence" pain point of our outdoor security modules. Its near-infrared (NIR) performance is also outstanding: the peak quantum efficiency (QE) at 850nm reaches 40%, and the QE at 940nm is 25% higher than that of the previous generation, significantly improving the imaging quality of NIR modules.
  1. Low Power Consumption & Long Endurance: At a frame rate of 30fps, its power consumption is only 91mW. In a high-temperature environment of 80℃, the dark current and white pixel count are reduced by 91% and 43% respectively compared to the previous generation. This makes it suitable for our solar/battery-powered wireless security modules, meeting the demand for long-term stable operation outdoors.
  1. Adaptability for 24/7 Recording: The SmartAOV®2.1 technology supports the mode of "1fps standby + 30fps trigger switching" and enables fast startup linkage of multiple sensors. This reduces the latency and power consumption of our multi-camera security modules, making them suitable for 24/7 monitoring scenarios.
Key Parameters & Implementation
  • Resolution: With a specification of 2MP, it perfectly matches the imaging requirements of mainstream full-HD security modules. No additional adjustment to the module’s resolution adaptation scheme is needed, reducing R&D and debugging costs.
  • Maximum Frame Rate: Up to 90fps, it can support the development of high-speed dynamic monitoring modules, meeting the demand for clear capture of fast-moving objects (such as vehicles and pedestrians) and expanding the application scenarios of the modules.
  • Packaging Form: Adopting CSP packaging, it facilitates the miniaturization design of modules. It adapts to the compact space installation requirements of outdoor security devices (such as pole-mounted cameras and small wireless monitors), improving the flexibility of module structural design.
Currently, the SC285SL is available for sample testing and is scheduled for mass production in Q1 2026. We are planning to develop supplementary-light-free low-light full-color modules and outdoor wireless monitoring modules based on this sensor to quickly respond to customers’ needs for security equipment in extreme environments.
