Using a 1080p USB Camera Module as an OEM Configuration Baseline

Many OEM camera projects do not fail because the standard sample lacks image quality. They become difficult when several “small” changes - a different lens, longer cable, new connector, revised housing, or alternative software mode - are made after the sample has been approved. Each change may be reasonable on its own, but the final combination may no longer match the tested reference.

SF-SQ2A4913 provides a practical baseline for projects that need Full HD USB imaging. The standard platform supports 1920 × 1080 at 30fps in MJPG, uses a 38 × 38mm PCB with a 4-pin 2.0mm terminal connector, and has a stated operating current of 120mA at DC5V. Its OEM value comes from using these conditions as one starting configuration, then controlling any requested variation against it.

Define the Output Before Adjusting the Hardware

The supplied platform supports MJPG and YUY2, but their Full HD frame rates differ: 30fps for MJPG and 5fps for YUY2. The selected output mode affects host processing, application behavior, and the sample acceptance method. It should therefore be agreed before image tuning or mechanical changes begin.

The validation record should identify the host, operating system, UVC mode, resolution, frame rate, and image settings used during the test. Adjustable controls such as exposure, white balance, gain, sharpness, and contrast should be tied to a repeatable scene. Otherwise, two samples can appear different simply because they were tested under different settings or illumination.

What Must Be Controlled During Customization or Production?

Lens and focus definition: Available lens directions range from 1.8mm to 16mm, with manual-focus or fixed-focus configurations. The selected EFL, focus distance, FOV, depth of field, and target size should be confirmed together. A lens chosen only by focal length may not provide the required image at the actual mounting distance.

Cable and connector definition: Cable length, conductor and shielding direction, USB termination, 4-pin connector, and routing inside the device form one electrical path. Any change should be tested on the target host, particularly if the cable must pass through hinges, moving structures, or electrically noisy areas.

Board and enclosure definition: The 38 × 38mm PCB, lens height, mounting points, cable exit, and housing clearance should be frozen in the mechanical drawing. The stated 120mA operating current is a baseline for power planning, not a substitute for measuring the complete device under the approved video mode.

Acceptance definition: The project should agree on the scene, distance, illumination, target detail, output mode, and image criteria used to approve samples. For barcode, label, or product-checking tasks, algorithm performance belongs in final-device validation rather than being inferred from resolution alone.

From Standard Sample to an Approved OEM Version

This module is relevant when 1080p provides sufficient image detail and the device needs a UVC-based USB path. To move toward production, the project should approve one complete combination of lens, focus, cable, connector, housing, output mode, and host - then control later changes against that reference.
